Made up of 16 villages spread across 173 hectares of landscaped gardens, golf course, fynbos and wetlands, Atlantic Beach Golf Estate is a welcoming place for young families and retirees alike, who all enjoy the active lifestyle the estate offers, along with the unrivalled views.
It’s not surprising then that the estate has turned into a thriving, close-knit community. With a weekly newsletter and some great events on offer, such as the monthly night market at the Leisure Centre, and the annual Village Fair, there is plenty to experience without ever having to leave. Along the walking paths you’ll find beautiful wooden book exchange units, enhancing the community feel and participation.
In addition to the Clubhouse and the various recreational facilities at the Leisure Centre – tennis, swimming pool and state-of-the-art gym facilities – there is also a 4-star luxury Lodge on the estate. The world-class 18-hole, 72-par links-style golf course is possibly one of the most scenic in the world – with that iconic view of Table Mountain.
Part of the Cape Floristic Region, Atlantic Beach Estate is situated in a botanical hotspot – and right near the oceans edge. This, says CEO Harry White, is a great blessing and a privilege, but also a huge responsibility.
‘Every home, every road and every building has been designed to preserve the unspoilt natural heritage of one of the most beautiful coastlines in the world. All elements of the estate were built with a serious commitment to the preservation of the indigenous fauna and flora. This has resulted in a stable population of wild animals on and around the estate, as well as a rich abundance of fynbos species, and we run ongoing programmes to retain and reinstate this natural resource.’
Even the cobbles and kerb stones have been specifically designed to blend unobtrusively with the fynbos-covered dunes, and illumination is provided by strategically placed bollard lights in place of obtrusive overhead lighting. Security, which is top-of-the-range with a secure perimeter fence and 24-hour patrols, has been upgraded to offer contactless access to conform to international best practice.
While the turnover of property owners and residents remains low – because nobody really wants to leave – those who do sell score financially, as property prices at Atlantic Beach have increased by 93% over the last five years. This, White believes, has been assisted by the estate’s very successful marketing strategy, and also by the proactive and professional board, who are prepared to take decisions, and then allow the management team to get on with their work. It’s probably also due to Atlantic Beach’s fantastic position. It’s a short drive from the city or the airport and close to malls, shops, schools and hospitals, but it feels way out of the city.
The Estate is favoured with year-round sunshine and wonderful conditions for outdoor living. The West Coast’s climate promises long, sun-drenched summer days – freshened by wind from the sea – and lush green winters. Springtime brings cascades of indigenous flora fed by cool ocean mists. A wild paradise within easy reach of the city and all amenities – truly the best of both worlds.
