Urban Living

With the entire suburb, from the mountainside to the ocean cascading downhill via avenues and tucked-away roads, Sea Point is aptly named. Hugging the Atlantic Seaboard and only a few kilometres from the Cape Town CBD, it thrums to an energy all of its own as it somehow manages to capture the spirit and character of a quaint coastal town, while embracing the rhythm and buzz of urban living.

Beyond the quiet of your new home at EIGHTONN, the neighbourhood basks in colour and sound and you’ll soon be finding your new favourite spots, seeing familiar faces and exploring its open urban spaces.

EIGHTONN is in browsing distance of a myriad of boutique stores as well as an eclectic mix of restaurants and public spaces, creating an intriguing cityscape just waiting to be discovered. Every conceivable type of bistro, café and restaurant – from old family favourites to the latest on Cape Town’s social scene – can be found along Sea Point’s iconic Main and Beach Roads, which are also peppered with a seemingly endless array of establishments embodying the vibrancy of the area.

You can’t talk about Sea Point without mentioning its famous promenade or “The Prom” as the locals fondly call it, which attracts fitness fanatics, strollers, pet lovers, and families alike who all come to enjoy the fresh spray and air of the Atlantic. And that – at the heart of it – is ultimately the point of Sea Point. There’s always something to do here, even if you just want to sit and do nothing on one of the benches.

In The Neighbourhood

EIGHTONN

Artem – 458 Steps from EIGHTONN

Just a short walk away from EIGHTONN and conveniently situated on Sea Point’s Main Road you’ll find ARTEM (formally The Adelphi Centre).
ARTEM means “to conceal art in its original form” and the centre is now more of a cosmopolitan galleria than your average grocer, combining art and shopping to offer you a wide selection of stores and experiences.

Once a cinema, the building was converted and reopened as a shopping centre in 1974. It’s since been expanded and renovated with black and white marble throughout, beautiful lighting, hand-crafted brass balustrades and a dramatic lobby entrance which are just a few examples of what can be expected.

La Perla – 458 Steps from EIGHTONN

Forty-five years ago La Perla Restaurant opened its doors on Sea Point’s beautiful beachfront and instantly became a significant Cape Town landmark.

The restaurant has a life of its own, as current owner Baylon Sandri, son of founder Emiliano Sandri, explains to us.

La Perla is all about the atmosphere, the style and consistently good food – a typical Italian seaside restaurant brought to the shorefront of Cape Town.

Green Point Urban Park

For over three decades, Cape Town City officials held onto a vision for a 107 hectare “People’s Common” and in 2011 the dream became a reality. At the heart of the Common is the 12.5 hectare Green Point Urban Park designed to cater for all ages and all cultures who share one common love: an urban community space. Let the footprints in the ground and the informational boards guide you, and enjoy the chance to play outdoors and learn about biodiversity. At the heart of the Atlantic Seaboard the Green Point Urban Park enhances the surrounding urban environment.

The Development Team

Jacques van Embden – Co-founder and Managing Director of Blok

The site of Blok’s eleventh development, EIGHTONN, gave us the opportunity to make a new and more inclusive contribution to the urban fabric of the Atlantic Seaboard.

Over the past year, I have had the pleasure of watching EIGHTONN evolve into a ground-breaking independent living concept that promises to cater to what up until now had been a largely under-serviced portion of the Atlantic Seaboard.

Marco van Embden – Co-founder and Chairman of Blok

Having spent a large portion of my life living along Cape Town’s Atlantic Seaboard, Sea Point has always been home to me. Over the years I have watched this community grow and change and am excited by the opportunity our new independent living concept will provide for the community.

An exclusive offering on the Atlantic Seaboard, this concept aims to provide a more mature and discerning market luxury one, two and three-bedroom urban apartments. The generous size of EIGHTONN’s apartments ensure that residents are able to live full lives entertaining guests and family in the privacy of their own home.

Erik Janse van Rensburg & Eric van den Berg – WAUW Architects

One of the main determinants that impacted the design of EIGHTONN was the fact that the site is flanked by two roads, Norfolk and Wisbeach. This affected both the aesthetic and functional nature of the building.

From a functional perspective it presented an opportunity for dual entrances for both vehicles and pedestrians. Due to Norfolk Road’s pedestrian friendly nature and more direct links to Beach and Main Road, it was chosen as the primary pedestrian entrance with parking secondary. Alternately, Wisbeach Road hosts the primary vehicular entrance to the basement parking with a secondary entrance to the building.
