A retirement community you can call home

5 min read

Groenkloof consists of retirement villages in George, Great Brak River and Reebok located in the heart of the beautiful Garden Route in the Western Cape.

Our villages boast the full spectrum of retirement offerings including Own Title Houses, Assisted Living Flats, Frail Care Units, Sub Acute Care Facilities, Community Centers and a multitude of Senior Services.  The villages will eventually be home to over 1,700 retired families and more than 400 families already made their happy home at Groenkloof.

The George Village

The Groenkloof George Retirement Village is located at the foot of the beautiful Outeniqua Mountains, in the Kraaibosch neigborhood just east of Glenwood neighborhood.

The George village is a prime location in the heart of the Garden Route and a north facing village, bringing light and warmth into homes and spectacular views of the Outeniqua Mountains. It is conveniently located in close proximity the Garden Route Mall as well as the airport and is considered a safe area.  In addition the village has effective security fencing and controlled access. The village consists of own title houses, life right houses, assisted living flats, a Care Unit and a community center.

The Glen Village

This upcoming new George Retirement Village is located at the foot of the majestic Outeniqua Mountains, behind Kraaibosch and just east of the prestigious Glenwood neighbourhood. To the east the Village borders a ravine and to the west it neighbours Groenkloof George Retirement Village.

The two villages are connected to each other via an underground tunnel which can be used as a walkway or for golf cars.   The physical link gives expression to the intent of the developer that each village will form an integral part of the larger Groenkloof George development area. Consequently, Groenkloof Glen has access to Groenkloof George’s Care Unit, Restaurant, community facilities and open areas.

The Rif Senior Estate

Groenkloof Rif is a gated community lifestyle senior estate in George with the important difference that it is directly connected to Groenkloof George Retirement Village.  The significance being that residents in Groenkloof Rif have use and access rights to all of the Groenkloof George Care Unit and are connected to the 24/7 medical emergency response system of the Care unit in case of medical emergencies.

The Groenkloof Rif constitution has no age restriction, but since the estate service the niche of seniors that still want a large property as well as the peace of mind of a Care Unit, inside a lock up and go gated community, we refer to it as a senior estate. You can choose between designing and constructing your own home within the architectural guidelines, or you can buy a plot and plan directly from the developer.

The Woods Village

This gated community is developed on a north facing gradual slope, creating spectacular views of the Outeniqua Mountains and countryside.  The Village borders to the east of Groenkloof Rif Senior Estate and has access to the Groenkloof George Care Unit (which is already fully operational).

The low maintenance architecture adds to the appeal of this haven which is nestled in breathtakingly beautiful scenery – perfect for taking leisurely strolls on its own grounds but also throughout the larger Groenkloof George development area. The village is between Saasveld and Kraaibosch, considered a safe suburb with low maintenance architecture which makes for affordable stable levies.

The Great Brak Village

Groenkloof Great Brak River Retirement Village is located in the picturesque and peaceful area of Great Brak River in the Southern Cape, close to the more commonly known Mossel Bay and Hartenbos retirement area. The village provides residents with the peace of mind of security and excellent medical care on a 24-hour basis.

The Home Owners Association is very active and inspirational. Social events are held from time to time and entertainers are invited to perform at the village. On Sundays the local church’s sermons are broadcasted on the big screen in the community centre, and several prayer meetings are organized during the week. There is on-going collaboration with clubs in the area i.e. the bowling club. It’s filled with friendly people and is a north facing village, bringing light and warmth into homes. It is conveniently located 15 minutes drive from the George airport, two large malls, several beaches, game lodges and some of the world’s best golf courses.

The Reebok Village

Groenkloof Reebok Retirement Village is located in the Southern Cape. The property is north facing, with beautiful views of the rolling hill countryside, but also close enough to the ocean to smell the ocean breeze getting you into the relaxing beach vacation mode. The village provides residents with the peace of mind of security and excellent medical care on a 24-hour basis.

Groenkloof Reebok Retirement Village, is linked to the Groenkloof Great Brak River Retirement Village, and more specifically to its Care Unit. The link was initiated to mutually benefit both villages. The advantage for Groenkloof Great Brak River is a broader more sustainable client base and on the other hand Groenkloof Reebok has access to a large Care Unit which gives residents peace of mind at affordable rates.

Groenkloof Reebok Retirement Village residents make, as part of their monthly Home owners Association levy, a contribution to the Groenkloof Great Brak River Care Unit; in return all available services are offered to Groenkloof Reebok residents at the same tariffs. Groenkloof Great Brak River Retirement Village is situated approximately 3 km from Groenkloof Reebok Retirement Village.

Care Services

We believe in being transparent regarding care services provided by the Care Unit to ensure all parties share the same expectations regarding the services delivered.

The Care Unit uses an evaluation form in order to objectively assess a resident’s state of health in order to determine the level of care needed.  An overview of the resident’s dependence and independence is, initially and periodically thereafter, evaluated.  This evaluation takes into account aspects such as medical history, mobility, personal hygiene, eating patterns, clothing, sight, hearing, treatments required, bathroom use, general health and the mental state of the resident. We then will suggest a Care Plan whether it is home based care, day-care services, assisted living care, frail care, high-care, sub-acute care or acute care.

Services are provided by Southern Healthcare (Pty) Ltd and Garden Route Healthcare (Pty) Ltd, independent operators providing excellent services to Groenkloof Residents.

At Home

Home based care services are offered to Groenkloof residents in the comfort of their own homes.  Our goal is to care for residents at their homes as long as possible.

Day-care services

A Day-care service was established mainly for residents caring for their significant other.  Caring in general is physically and emotionally taxing and this day-care service provides a much deserved break to the caring spouse.  This enables the caring spouse to attend to personal matters, to rest and to recharge to resume caring with new energy.

Assisted living care

Flats are in close proximity or inside the Care Unit enabling us to provide supervision and assistance with activities of daily living.  Assisted living residents have daily contact with the Care Unit and can be assisted 24 hours a day.

Sub-Acute Care

Sub-acute care is typically for an individual who undergoes an operation, hip or knee replacement, has a stroke, is in need of wound care, experience problems with heart failure, kidney failure, dehydration, lung disease, or has been diagnosed with pneumonia, bronchitis, Alzheimer’s or cancer.  The care is provided at lower than the hospital (acute) rates, with the permission and authorisation of your Medical Aid.

Frail Care services

The Frail care service focuses on long term care of residents who cannot be properly cared for at home or in the assisted living flats.  Even though the definition of frail is commonly “physically weak, fragile or delicate”, we experience that our Frail care is often a happy home for persons in need of less space and stuff in a safe, stimulating and caring environment.

We believe that our commitment to continually strive for excellence in care, coupled with more than 12 years experience in caring for the Groenkloof family, gives us an edge, which you can experience when you visit a Groenkloof Retirement Village and speak to the residents.

Please advise. We are looking for a 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, single garage property to buy on life-rights in anyone of the Groenkloof Retirement Villages. We are 72 years old and live presently in our own house in Mossel Bay. Thank you.
