Hermanus, Western Cape | Retirement Estate

Feel right at home

2 min read

Nestled at the foot of the Kleinrivier Mountain Range, Kidbrooke Place was originally a protea farm owned by Norman and Doris Hudd.

As a gift to the region and the town of Hermanus, the Hudds very generously bequeathed the 196 acres of magnificent land for the establishment of a retirement village. They also donated their striking homestead, to be converted and equipped as a frail care centre.

Today Kidbrooke Place is a beautiful and full-service retirement village thanks to the legacy of Norman and Doris. Their kind and caring spirits continue to shine in the cordial attitude of the people living and working in the village, all giving their time, knowledge and skills to help others and benefit the village as a whole.

Our key aim is to support residents to remain independent and in your own home for as long as possible. From round-the-clock care and assistance to nutritious meals and engaging activities, we’re here to provide everything you need to thrive. Kidbrooke Place offers a range of support and care services. We know that ageing, illness and injury create challenges to living independently.

Life Right Explained

Purchasing a Life Right cottage in Kidbrooke Place means residents have the right to the exclusive use and occupation of a dwelling unit in the village for their lifetime. A Life Right amount, as applicable to the specific unit, is paid prior to occupation and, on resale, the full original amount is refunded to the resident’s estate.  The profits made from higher resale values are used exclusively for the benefits of the village. Refurbishments are done to all our units on the exchange of ownership.

How does the waiting list work?

We highly recommend joining the waiting list as soon as possible, as cottages in Kidbrooke Place are very sought after and are sold quickly. All would-be Life Right purchasers complete an application form and pay a non-refundable registration fee to join the waiting list. Applications are ordered by application date, and cottages are offered strictly in this order. Medical and financial details are required before signing the Agreement; on acceptance of the purchase offer, a 10% deposit is payable. The cottage is refurbished for the new owner, and the balance of the payment is due upon occupation.
