Located near one of the world’s prime fishing centres

2 min read

Shelley Point is located approximately 150km from Cape Town on the Cape West Coast within the bigger St Helena Bay area, which is one of the world’s prime fishing centres. Fed by the nutrient rich Benguela current, the waters teem with marine life and provide the livelihood for its coastal inhabitants.

St Helena Bay is also one of only three natural bays on the mainland coastlines of the world where one can see views of both a sunrise and a sunset over the sea! St Helena Bay is recognized as one of the calmest bays in the world as it is sheltered from the West Coast winds.

The Estate covers an area of 150 hectares that stretches from Stompneusbaai in the east, Shell Bay to the north and looks back over Golden Mile to the west. The strandveld it consists of is home to many species: Angulate Tortoises, Guineafowl and Cape Spurfowl, Steenbok and Cape Mongoose – not to mention the threatened African Black Oystercatcher who nests in the beds of washed-up mussel shells. These waters are home to the Heaviside’s Dolphin, endemic along Southern Africa’s West Coast. Three magnificent bays frame the Shelley Point Peninsula, each with its own unique charm, from beautiful white beaches to one of the calmest bays on the West Coast. We are within easy reach of other places of interest like Paternoster, Langebaan, Port Owen, Lamberts Bay and many more.

Shelley Point offers a nine-hole golf course, which is situated in the middle of the estate. The course was designed by doyen of SA PGA golf professionals, Ken Elkin, who was Mowbray Golf Club’s Professional and he designed more than 40 golf courses including Devonvale Golf, Parow, Durbanville and Erinvale to mention a few. This may only be a nine-hole golf course, but it certainly promises plenty in the way of a challenging game. The gorgeous greens and fairways wind through the pretty vegetation that graces this part of the country so beautifully.

Other facilities and activities that the estate has to offer includes:

  • State of the art Tennis Courts.
  • Well-manicured Bowling Green
  • Kayak Trips
  • Cycling & Jogging Trails
  • Childrens Play Park
  • Hotel, Restaurant & Spa
