The official Newsletter of the Kingswood Golf Estate HOA

October 2021 Edition #5

From the CEO

Welcome to our third edition of the Kingswood BUZZard Newsletter for 2021.

Summer is finally here, evidenced by new growth and life on our beautiful estate. Flowers are in full bloom and the springbok and other wildlife on the estate are enjoying the new growth and succulence. We finally moved away from stringent Covid regulations and can almost breathe unobstructed free air. To those homeowners who lost friends and family to this virus, my deepest condolences.

The estate was not without adversity. As much as we appreciated the wonderful rain in August, at some places 100mm was recorded in less than five hours. This caused damage on the golf course and to a few homes due to the large volume of water in such a short space of time. As is the spirit of Kingswood, we rolled up our sleeves and immediately started repairing those areas that suffered damage. More on the golf course damage later in this issue.

The estate and golf course are looking stunning and during the next month we will be preparing the course for December and the customary influx of family and visitors to George and the Garden Route. Kingswood Golf Estate, and especially our golf course, is proving to be ever more popular with visiting tourists and golfers.

We are aware of some of the challenges this newfound popularity may cause and will be working closely with Kingswood Golf Operations to raise the bar, so to speak, to reflect the incredible value offering golfers experience. A very successful Pro-Am tournament was hosted on the 13th and 14th of October and our amazing estate was perfectly showcased to the likes of the Sunshine Tour and professional players.

Our security service provider, Fidelity Security Services, was the main sponsor of this tournament and plans are already being put in motion to have an even bigger event next year. More about this tournament later in this issue.

The month of October also saw homeowners vote in favour of buying the Gatehouse property at Gate 1 and the settlement of the long-standing dispute between the Homeowners Association and the developer. I am convinced that both decisions will prove to be in the best interest of the estate, and I congratulate each homeowner on taking this confident step forward. Read more about the Gatehouse acquisition later in this issue.

Kingswood BUZZard October 2021

The next few years will be very exciting, with the advent of the roads and infrastructure of Phase 4 being completed and new homes being built. Maybe the next phase of expansion will be a new clubhouse, hotel and other community facilities — it’s certainly something to look forward to.

I’m reminded of a quote by Francis of Assisi: “Start by doing what is necessary, then do what’s possible and suddenly you are doing the impossible”. We have come such a long way in the last two years, even with a global pandemic affecting every aspect of our work and personal lives. I am confident that Kingswood will continue to be regarded as the best possible property investment in the Garden Route.

We also saw new trustees being elected and I am confident, after having met and interacted with them, that they will bring new energy and insights to the board. We are truly blessed as an estate to have such competent and willing individuals. Later in this issue you will be properly introduced to them.

I hope you enjoy this issue of the Kingswood BUZZard.

Stay safe and stay healthy.

Kingswood greetings,
Willem Jacobs

Local ‘n lekker: Yuppie Gift Baskets – Christine Maree

3 min readWhen meeting Christine Maree at her Yuppie Gift Baskets (YGB) warehouse in George Industria, the immediate effect is of a real-life trompe l’oeil: does she appear smaller against the backdrop of her large business premises, or is it the other way ‘round?

Should Covid-19 vaccinations be compulsory?

3 min readFor South Africa to meet its target of vaccinating 70% of its population by December, more than half of all adults need to have had their first shot by — well now — end October.

Microfarms

5 min readMicrofarms probably won’t solve world hunger, but it wouldn’t be far from the truth to say that they may be the best candidate for that honour. And, while it’s unlikely that many people living in residential estates are starving, it’s almost certain that most can benefit from more fresh veggies – and from fresher veggies.
